Ronald Gainor is Special Counsel and Chair of the Government Investigations and White Collar Defense Group at Spector Rubin. Mr. Gainor is a seasoned and respected trial attorney, having been lead counsel in over 120 federal and state jury trials during his over thirty-year career.
From 1986 to 1989, Mr. Gainor served as a prosecutor in Miami, Florida under Janet Reno, the former Dade County State Attorney and later Attorney General of the United States. After leaving the government, Mr. Gainor became a defense attorney focused on the representation of individuals and corporations accused of complex white-collar crimes and other offenses.
In 2001, Mr. Gainor became a founding partner in the law firm of Gainor & Donner, which concentrates on defending complex federal economic cases throughout the country, among other offenses. During his career, Mr. Gainor has led trial teams against the Department of Justice where he has successfully defended against allegations of insider trading, Medicare and insurance fraud, tax fraud, transportation fraud, computer/cyber fraud, including corporate data intrusion cases, and banking fraud. Mr. Gainor is responsible for significant victories in the Northern District of California involving an executive of a national brokerage company charged with conspiracy to commit moving fraud and extortion as well as individuals charged with securities fraud in the Southern Districts of New York and Florida. He has also represented individuals and executives of large health care entities and advised transportation companies in significant pre-indictment matters. After a successful defense, he is responsible for the re-drafting of nationwide governmental investigative protocols involving the Department of Homeland Security regarding Internet investigations. In addition to the Department of Justice and Homeland Security, Mr. Gainor has successfully litigated cases against the Securities and Exchange Commission, the United States Customs Service, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Transportation and the Transportation and Safety Administration.
Mr. Gainor received his undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Albany in 1982 and both of his law degrees, a J.D and LL.M in Trial Litigation, from Emory University in 1985 and 1986, respectively. After graduating law school, he served as a trial advocacy instructor for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy program based in Atlanta, Georgia and has served as a consultant to other law firms, assisting in the formation of their trial strategy against various federal and state agencies.
